Owatonna Fire Department performs numerous public education events throughout the year. The Owatonna Fire Department will provide presentations on fire safety and related topics to groups and organizations.

Presentation Descriptions

Fire Extinguisher Training

The extinguisher training sessions are an hour in length. The training is conducted by a full-time firefighter and includes:

  • 17-minute DVD
  • Explanation of the various types of extinguishers
  • Outside hands-on demonstration. 

The facility is responsible for the extinguishers used during the training.

Fire Safety Information Programs

These programs can be customized to fit your agenda. All of the full-time firefighters can discuss various topics including:

  • Fire escape plans
  • Fire safety tips for work and home
  • Personal safety tips
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Tornado sheltering plans

These programs are offered to industry, businesses, civic groups and clubs, and children of all ages.

Truck Visits

A truck visit will include seeing a firefighter in full turnout gear, seeing the inside of a fire truck, and getting a chance to sit inside. This is weather permitting.

Station Visits

Any group can make an appointment to visit the Fire Station. They will be given a tour of the Station and Apparatus Bay. They will see all the fire trucks and where the firefighters work every day.

Specialized Training

The fire department will customize a training program to meet other safety needs in the community. Please call the OFD at 507-444-2454 for more information.
