FACEBOOK POST LEADS TO TIP

On August 20th, a post was created with a picture of a suspect in a theft case officers were investigating. With the help of the public sharing our post and getting it distributed, we took in several tips within 24 hours and were able to get the suspect identified. The case is going to be sent to the County Attorney's Office requesting charges because of the support our community gave in this investigation, and for that, we thank all who assisted.

FATAL ACCIDENT

On August 21, the Owatonna Police Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle and occupant that hit a tree on the 2400 block of 3rd Ave NE around 4:35 p.m. The driver was identified as Yusuf Ali (29) of Owatonna, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Speeding and impairment appear to be two contributing factors of the crash. The case remains under investigation by the Owatonna Police Department.

The Owatonna Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Owatonna Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Mayo Ambulance.
