CHICKEN TALK

On Tuesday, March 4th, the city council approved an amendment to an existing ordinance related to owning a rooster in the city limits.  Below explains the background and amended ordinance.  If complaints come in regarding roosters, we will be looking to educate the public and get voluntary compliance on this matter.

Background: Presence of roosters within the corporate limits of the city is a nuisance to the neighborhoods where the roosters are kept. The ordinance is an amendment to our existing ordinance entitled “Obligation to Prevent Nuisances” by making it clear that a rooster is included among the animals regulated under City Ordinance Code § 90.07.

§ 90.07 OBLIGATION TO PREVENT NUISANCES.

A. It shall be the obligation and responsibility of the owner or custodian of any animal in the city, whether permanently or temporarily therein, to prevent such animal from committing any act which constitutes a nuisance. For purposes hereof, the Council finds, declares and determines that it shall be deemed a nuisance for any animal to habitually or frequently bark, bay, howl cry, or crow to the detriment of the peace and quietude of neighbors of its owner or custodian or the public in general, to frequent school grounds, parks or public beaches, to chase vehicles, to molest or annoy any person if such person is not on the property of the owner or custodian of such animal or to molest, defile or destroy any property, public or private. Failure on the part of the owner or custodian to prevent his or her animals from committing an act of nuisance shall be subject to the penalty hereinafter provided.

B. No person may own, keep, harbor or maintain a rooster within the corporate limits of the city.

Vehicle Recall

Check for Recalls - A Simple Step to Prevent Crashes

Vehicle safety recalls aren’t just about repairs – they are also about preventing crashes and saving lives. If safety features and equipment such as brakes, airbags, steering components or child seats are faulty, they can turn a routine drive into a serious crash. Vehicle Safety Recalls Week, which runs March 3-9, focuses on educating drivers about the importance of regular recall checks. Vehicle safety recalls are more common than you think, and ignoring them can put you, your passengers and others on the road at risk. That’s why it’s critical to check your vehicle for recalls regularly. It’s fast and easy – and if there’s an open recall, your dealership will also fix it for free.

To learn if there are any recalls on your vehicle, visit National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Recalls and search by:

  • license plate
  • vehicle identification number
  • vehicle year, make and model
  • equipment type such as car seats, tires, or other equipment

Take a minute today to check your vehicle and encourage others to do the same.
