City of Owatonna to Host February Open Houses on Future Police and Fire FacilitiesResidents are invited to attend one of two open houses to learn about the City’s plan to build new police and fire stations OWATONNA, Jan. 21, 2026 – The City of Owatonna will host two open houses in February to share information with and answer questions from the public about plans to build new police and fire facilities. The open houses will be held February 3 and February 26 from 4 until 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. After serving the community for many years, Owatonna’s existing police and fire buildings face aging infrastructure and space limitations that increasingly hinder modern public safety operations. “Ensuring the safety of our community is our top priority, and that starts with facilities that meet the needs of today’s first responders,” said Police Chief Jeffrey Mundale. “We hope residents come to these open houses to learn more about the challenges at our current buildings and how the proposed plan will strengthen the essential services we provide.” The City’s plan includes constructing a new fire station on the site of the current Law Enforcement Center and a new police station at the West Hills Campus. City officials say the sites were selected based on response times, operational efficiency and the responsible use of taxpayer dollars. “We want residents to be informed and engaged as we plan for the future of our public safety facilities,” said City Administrator Jenna Tuma. “The City has taken a thoughtful, long-range approach to evaluating our current police and fire stations and identifying solutions that will serve Owatonna well into the future.” At the open houses, attendees can explore information stations, review planning materials, ask questions and speak with City staff and project partners.
