What is the Seed Exchange Program at Owatonna Public Library?

The Seed Exchange Program allows community members to share and receive seeds for planting and growing. This free program provides seeds along with helpful tips on planting, cultivation, harvesting, and saving seeds. The seed library offers a sustainable way to access homegrown food. We encourage participants to contribute seeds after their harvest or at the end of the growing season, so others can benefit.

How do I borrow seeds?

Seeds are available for pickup at our Seed Library, located on the second floor in the Adult Services section. Seeds are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of 3 seed packets per visit. Please take only what you need.

How do I donate seeds?

We welcome seed donations at the library. You can donate vegetables, flowers, or herb seeds, whether commercially packaged or saved from your own garden. For each variety of saved seed, please complete a donation form available at the drop-off location. Seeds should be clean, dry, and placed in a sealed bag, envelope, or container. Our staff and volunteers will sort and prepare the donations for sharing. Your seed donations help grow the program and ensure a wide variety of seeds are available to the community.
